1. Learning to read the staff notes in written music (treble clef or bass clef)

2. Learning the notes on the fretboard (open to the 12th fret)

3. Learning to associate "key signatures" in written music with scale positions on the fretboard

4. Internalizing written rhythmic phrases, note values, and melodic lines.

Tablature

1. Learning the notes in written music relative to the notes in tablature

2. Learning string/fret positions used in fingering patterns.

Fingering Styles

1. Exercises to co-ordinate the left-hand (or fretting hand) utilizing a one-finger-per-fret rule of logic.

Picking Styles

1. Exercises to co-ordinate and stabilize the right hand (or picking hand) utilizing "alternate" strokes, "sweep" strokes, string skipping, etc.

Embellishment

1. Excercises involving "hammer ons," "pull-offs," string bending, reverse string bends, sliding, vibrato, tremolo, etc.

2. Learning how to make the best use your music equipment to get the sound you are looking for.

Songs

1. Learning Songs is an essentail and fun part of playing. Together we will pick tunes that hold your interest and are within the level of learning appropriate to your knowledge and skills. If we find something is too difficult we will adapt by plugging into those areas we need to get to that level. My motto is: Learn what you need to know in order to play what you want.

Chord Progressions

1. Learning basic chords and chord progressions will aid you in mastering songs you encounter and wish to play.

2. We apply this information to your musical interests to boast your musical skills.

Solos

Solos are the fun part of playing songs. Songs which capture your interest usually have an improvisational section called the "solo." It represents the part of the tune where you have the chance to have fun by engaging the intuiative side of your brain and becoming creative. We will discuss this more in depth according to your personalized lesson plan.
